posted Sep 18, 2014, 2:14 PM by Harritt Elementary   [ updated Sep 18, 2014, 2:20 PM ]

Hello parents! Your kids will be bringing home a packet this Friday with details on Harritt's one major fundraiser this year, The "Flight of the Hawks" Jogathon.  The jogathon will occur on Friday, October 3, 2014.  The purpose of the event is to have fun, exercise, and to raise money for field trips, classroom supplies, and fun school events.

If you would like to help by donating prizes, please send email to harritt.parentclub@hotmail.com.

In addition to the volunteers that we will need to mark laps and hand out refreshments, we also have need of a photographer or two on the day of the event as well as signs and balloons for the starting stations. If you can help with any of these, please let us know.

Dear Parents and Community Members of Harritt Elementary School,

It is with great excitement that I introduce myself as your new principal. Many personal and professional experiences throughout my life have prepared me for this position. I am the parent of two bilingual children, who taught me the challenges and rewards of raising them to become respectful, responsible and culturally competent young adults. As an elementary teacher I enjoyed many years of natural curiosity in young children, their eagerness to learn new things, and their parents’ desire to do what is best for their children.

I am happy to be on board as your new principal and am looking forward to working as part of a goal-oriented and passionate team. Harritt’s staff and students are a large family and we do every day what is best for each one of our children. We are known for building long lasting relationships with your students and families.
Due to recent boundary changes, we will welcome many new families, teachers and support staff.

My training and skills that will allow me to be a qualified leader include training as an ESOL teacher (Master’s degree from the University of Munich), seven years of teaching at the elementary level in this district and eleven years of experience as an administrator.

As one of my first projects at Harritt, I am planning to form a data team that will research past and current academic performance of our students. This team will advise us when we are setting goals for improvements in reading and math for all of our students, but especially for those who do not speak English in their homes.

On a personal note, I am an avid swimmer and cyclist, and love baking Christmas cookies. As a former elementary PE teacher, I would love to create a wellness team for parents and staff, with the purpose of stress relief, companionship and health benefits. Suggestions are welcome!

I am looking forward to the opportunity to build new personal and professional relationships at Harritt Elementary School.

Sincerely,
Martina Mangan
Principal

Atentamente,
Martina Mangan
