School attendance area boundary change letters mailed

posted Jan 27, 2014, 3:31 PM by Harritt Elementary   [ updated Jan 27, 2014, 3:35 PM ]

Salem-Keizer Public Schools mailed letters to parents of students affected by a boundary change on January 16, 2014. If you are affected by a boundary change and have not yet received a letter, please contact the school right away.

The letter explains the continuity exemption and the forms parents need to complete, including:

·        Declaration forms - All students affected by a boundary change must complete a declaration form and return it to the school by February 14, 2014.

·        In-district transfer forms - All students who are eligible for, and want to claim a continuity exemption must complete and return an in-district transfer form to the school by February 28, 2014. All other requests for transfer (such as those who don’t qualify for the continuity exemption and wish to attend a different school) must apply through the regular in-district transfer process. The application window is March 1 – 31, 2014.

More information about the continuity exemption and a downloadable declaration form is available on the district website, http://www.salemkeizer.org/story/west-salem-boundary-change-letters-mailed.

In-district transfer forms can be picked up at the school.

The boundary changes are subject to vote by the School Board. If the School Board does not approve the boundary change proposal, all West Salem boundary change process declaration and continuity exemption applications are void. The paperwork process has started in advance of the Board vote to allow parents time to complete needed forms, and to allow staff time to plan and prepare for the coming school year.

More information about the proposed boundary changes can be found on the district website at www.salemkeizer.org.
